Question Stems - KS1 and KS2

These documents contain all the question starters that have been tested in the reading papers focusing on the 3 mainly tested content domains 1a/2a - Vocabulary, 1b/2b - retrieval and 1d/2d - inference. They have then been separated into whether the question was a fiction or a non-fiction text question. The second set then colour-codes these into the question wording to help practitioners see the more regularly tested questions in relation to the content domain and text being used. These will support practitioners in thinking about the sentences being posed throughout the key stage.

Documents to support Spoken Language

Audit for Spoken Language

This simple audit may provide a starting point for schools to discuss how the programmes of study for Spoken Language are developed from EYFS - Year 6. What does it look like in the different year groups and how is it explicitly taught?

Speaking and Listening posters

Although these posters were produced in 2003 by the Primary National Strategy, there are still some useful activities to support staff in teaching some of the Spoken Language programmes of study.

Cracking Grammar - Addressing writing fluency - points 15 and 34 in the 'Telling the story' report

These two documents - Sentence development and Punctuation development-  are designed to support and guide staff in delivering the grammar expectations from the National Curriculum appendix 2.

Many English leaders are using these documents with staff across school to support subject knowledge and ensuring that the grammar concepts from Appendix 2 are consolidated and understood.
