At crackingenglish.co.uk, I intend to share resources that will support staff development . I will continually add resources (mostly free but resources can be found on the products page to purchase) to support in developing the knowledge and skills needed to develop English in primary schools.
This page is designed to provide subject leaders with key documentation and ideas to support their role and develop staff CPD.
The most recent Ofsted subject report on the quality of English in primary and secondary schools in England.
Telling the story- the English education subject report (pdf)
DownloadAudit for Spoken Language
This simple audit may provide a starting point for schools to discuss how the programmes of study for Spoken Language are developed from EYFS - Year 6. What does it look like in the different year groups and how is it explicitly taught?
Although these posters were produced in 2003 by the Primary National Strategy, there are still some useful activities to support staff in teaching some of the Spoken Language programmes of study.
These two documents - Sentence development and Punctuation development- are designed to support and guide staff in delivering the grammar expectations from the National Curriculum appendix 2.
Many English leaders are using these documents with staff across school to support subject knowledge and ensuring that the grammar concepts from Appendix 2 are consolidated and understood.
The writing opportunities map can be used with staff to discuss the variety of writing opportunities that are being provided across the school.
